| Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region consists of more than 10,000 acres of forest, wetlands, ponds and streams. It takes a lot of work to take care of this land. We are counting on support from volunteers to help protect this great place. There are many ways to help as individuals and as groups. You can volunteer with the conservation crew at the Mountain to improve trails or install signs or plant trees. There's lots of work to be done to protect the beauty and the environment of Agamenticus. Join us! |
Adopt-A-Trail |
| Trails near the summit are available for adoption by anyone who can commit to a day of trail work twice a year. Trail-keepers will clean water bars and drainage dips in the spring and fall to protect trails from erosion. Branches and fallen trees need to be cleared from the trail, too. There will be an orientation and instruction session and then you can do the work when it fits into your schedule. Maintain and Repair Trails |
| The trail crew works full time to improve the trails. We welcome volunteers to join us! Contact the Conservation Coordinator. to schedule a time to work with us. Our schedule varies from week to week and we often work weekends. |
Clean Up Trash and Litter |
| With the help of many volunteers, we have made great strides to clean up Mount A and to promote Leave No Trace principles. However, periodically, we need help to keep the area trash and litter free. This could make a great Earth Day or Scout event. |
Build Bog Bridges Over Streams and Wet Areas |
| There are lots of wetlands and ephemeral streams at Mount A. We need to build bridges to get people over these wet areas without damaging habitat and water quality. |
Replant Vegetation and Plant Seeds |
| Many slopes on the mountain have been severely eroded. With persistence and good weather, we can re-establish soil and vegetation to these bare spots. We will replant hardy, native shrub and perennial species and spread grass seeds in damaged areas. |
Remove Invasive Non-Native Plants |
|
Join A Community Work Party |
| Don’t let the aliens invade! We need to maintain constant vigilance to keep invasive plants out of areas we previously removed them from and eradicate new populations as they are discovered. This important work will help protect our rare plant and animal communities, keep our wetlands healthy, and maintain the area’s biodiversity. |
Join us for a volunteer workday. We will have volunteer work days this summer to repair and maintain trails and build bog bridges. Contact the Conservation Coordinator, check out our Schedule [PDF], or look for announcements at trailheads to find out the schedule |
