  • Summit Viewscaping; View cutting at the summit is complete!
  • All Trails are Open- though some will remain “under construction” until the next thaw and field season when clean up and rerouting to the summit parking or grass area can continue.
  • This is part of a scenic landscaping project that has restored and enhanced views of the eastern seacoast, inland ponds and distant mountain ranges.
  • The 14 acre “viewshed” will be allowed to revegetate and will be maintained as beneficial early successional shrubland.  This is valuable habitat for many wildlife species.
  • In addition, a gentle scenic path planned for the future will guide visitors around the perimeter.

  • Moonlight Snowshoe; Saturday, February 4th from 6:00pm until 8pm

Spend an evening under the moonlight and learn about some wild winter residents. Meet at CFW then we'll hike up Mt. Agamenticus under the almost full moon. For this special event Mt. A. will open up their Learning Lodge after hours and we will wrap up the program with some live animal ambassadors and enjoy hot cocoa. Drivers will be shuttled back to their vehicles following the program. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person. Registration is required, and it filled up quickly last year! "Snow-date" (or lack of!) is scheduled for Thursday March 8th, 6:30-8:30pm.
To register for this event please email: info@yorkcenterforwildlife.org

  • Winter Story WalkTM Cancelled- Due to vandalism

The Story WalkTM program combines the benefits of physical activity, time outdoors in nature, literacy and family time by taking children’s books and posting them, in pieces, along a recreational path or hiking trail.   Unfortunately, this highly popular program at Mt. A will not be available until we are able to recover from vandalism.  The Story WalkTM stations have been severely damaged or are missing.  However, plans to replace them as soon as possible are underway and once they are rebuilt and installed we will repost.  If you would like to help out, please let us know!

Seeking Donations
As we expand, develop, move and transition the new Mt. Agamenticus conservation office, Learning Lodge, and meeting spaces we have found ourselves short a few items.

We are seeking: A bookshelf; Paper cutter; Large conference tables; Portable display boards; Old style skiis, ski-boots, & poles (from 1960-1970’s); and Library books (esp. Children’s books and Nature themed books).

We are also hoping to upgrade some of our desks and chairs and are looking to outfit the new office kitchen. If anyone is replacing gently used pots, pans, bowls, baking sheets, cups/glasses, silverware, other utensils, etc. etc. - please do consider us!

Invasive Insects
Here is the latest on Hemlock Woolly Adelgid: http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20100530-NEWS-5300330

And as if HWA weren’t enough, there are a couple more insect threats to southern Maine…

The Maine Department of Agriculture and Maine Forest Service are hoping local citizens will help them in detecting two new and serious non-native invasive insects.  The Asian Longhorned Beetle has been detected in Massachusetts, with the latest ALB found recently in Boston.  The Emerald Ash Borer is also a great concern and has been found in Maryland.

Spread the word, not the beetles! Get all the latest news at: http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/pi/pestsurvey/pestinfo/ALB/ALB.htm and

Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund (MOHF) has a new scratch ticket out:
Our conservation program is funded in part by MOHF. (To see a list of Mt. A supporters visit: http://agamenticus.org/getinvolved.html). MOHF is able to fund projects such as ours through the sale of the only lottery ticket that provides funding to wildlife and conservation groups in Maine. If you would like to support our program and help to fund future projects throughout the state consider purchasing their latest ticket, Catch A Winner, available in stores now. Click Here

The Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund conserves wildlife and open spaces through the sale of instant Lottery tickets. With proceeds from ticket sales, grants are awarded twice a year, totaling approximately $700,000 annually. The seven-member Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund Board chooses projects in four categories that promote recreation as well as conservation of Maine's special places, endangered species and important fish and wildlife habitat.

If you are interested in other ways to support Mt. “A” please consider helping out on volunteer workdays, making a monetary contribution, or by supporting your local land trusts and their land conservation initiatives.
