News from Mount A- updated May 17, 2008

The Mount Agamenticus Conservation Specialist, Annie Rueb will be leading a new Nature Walk Series starting in July from 9-11 on Saturdays and 3-5 on Sundays rain or shine. Spend some time exploring new areas and learning about the natural treasure in your own backyard. A printable flier is attached.

Dates:
July 5 & 6 The Mt. A Region has the highest concentration of vernal pools in the state and is home to 3 threatened and endangered species. Hike to nearby vernal pools and wetlands to learn the difference between facultative and obligate species, critical habitat, source-sink dynamics, and issues surrounding fragmentation.

July 12 & 13 Community Ecology- it's all about relationships. Hike around the area to learn about the many intricate relationships that shape Mount A's ecological web.

July 25 & 26 The Mount A Region is painted by a historical mosaic. Hike down old logging roads, walk beside stonewalls, rock piles and even old gravesites camouflaged by forest succession.

Please come dressed in appropriate attire and footwear. Some hikes may last longer than the intended time. Pre-registration is not required, but would be greatly appreciated. This is a free event and open to the public.

Please contact Annie at mtagamenticus@gmail.com or 207/361-1102 for details and to confirm attendance.
